Winterlake Lodge & Redoubt Bay Lodge Itinerary
Anchorage, Alaska Roundtrip - 4 night / 5 day

Day 1: Arrive Anchorage, Alaska
Upon arrival at the Anchorage Airport you will be met by a private driver and transferred to your accommodations located in the heart of downtown Anchorage.Overnight Accommodations: Hotel Captain Cook, junior suite
Day 2: Fly to Winterlake Lodge / Full Day of Activities
Transfer to nearby Lake Hood for your departing flight to Winterlake Lodge. By floatplane you will travel on a scenic journey to Winterlake Lodge and “Weather Permitting” your flight includes views of Mt. McKinley, Mt. Foraker and Mt. Hunter.Meals: Lunch, Appetizers, Dinner
Enjoy an optional extended flightseeing route to Denali National Park and the Mt. McKinley area offering viewers one of the last vast wilderness areas untouched by modern man. You will see another world in the Alaska Range; words cannot quite do it justice. View over six million acres of open alpine tundra, wildlife, mile high granite gorges, blue glacier ice flows and giant icy peaks.... It’s something you must experience to really appreciate.
Day 3: Winterlake Lodge Activities
Experience a full-day of activities. There are canoes available at the lodge for exploring the lake and small islands located to the west of the lodge. There is a resident loon family on the lake and during certain times of the year swans migrate through the area and otter families visit Winterlake frequently. Or perhaps, enjoy one of many hiking trails such as the easy walking “Iditarod Loop”. On this section of the famous National Historic Iditarod Trail, discover and identify local flora, examine animal tracks, investigate an historic turn-of-the-century cabin site, and be on the lookout for wildlife including black bears, moose, beaver, loons, Trumpeter swans, otters and the area’s famous little wood frogs that often frequent the area. The hike leads to the lovely and peaceful Red Lake where a canoe awaits the adventurer seeking to explore more.The “Wolverine Ridge” hike has a maximum altitude gain of 3,000-feet, offering a variety of panoramic views of the surrounding valleys. The trail crosses an active beaver pond, a wildflower meadow, through a cottonwood forest, that will gradually gain altitude. Edible berries and unique alpine flowers line the way. Frequently seen by visitors is an array of wildlife including black bears, moose and occasionally wolves. Once on the summit, to the north you can view the rest of the Alaska Range Mountains including Denali, Mt. Foraker, and the Kichatna Spires! Looking south you can see the Hayes Glacier and valley and the wide Skwentna and Yenta Rivers.

Enjoy an optional heli-hiking excursion. The lodge staff and a hiking guide can arrange a heli-hiking adventure to a secluded destination that will leave you breathless amiss its spectacular scenery. Your heli-adventure brings you closer to Trimble Glacier & Hayes Glacier as well an extended stop at the entrance to Rainy Pass. You’ll explore and hike in the Tordrillo Mountains and enjoy the thrill of landing along the National Historic Iditarod Trail.
Day 4: Depart Winterlake / Fly to Redoubt Bay Lodge
This morning you will have a farewell breakfast at the lodge and then board a floatplane on a scenic flight to Winterlake Lodge’s sister property Redoubt Bay Lodge. At Redoubt Bay Lodge, you’ll have the opportunity to view bears in a safe and comfortable environment by traveling in a pontoon boat. You will motor to a small cove where the salmon are inbound from the sea, making their way to the nearby creek and that is where you will find the bears.After a day of bear, wildlife viewing, canoeing and hiking exploration, you will board a floatplane on a scenic flight that provides spectacular scenic views of the Cook Inlet and the western edge of the Kenai Peninsula. Early evening you arrive at Lake Hood and transfer to Anchorage.

Day 5: Depart Winterlake Lodge / Board Your Yacht / or Travel Home
After a hearty breakfast at the lodge you will fly to Anchorage on a scenic floatplane journey arriving at Lake Hood, near the Anchorage International Airport. From Lake Hood you can pursue the following transfer options.- Transfer to the Anchorage International Airport to connect with departing flight home.
- Transfer to the Hotel Captain Cook for an additional nights’ stay.
- Transfer to the Anchorage International Airport to connect with a departing flight to Juneau/Sitka/Price Rupert to board American Safari Yacht.
