About your Accommodations and Rail Travel

Hotel Captain Cook

Hotel Captain Cook - Anchorage Alaska The Hotel Captain Cook is Anchorage's only true luxury hotel, located in what is now the bustling hub of America's gateway to the Pacific Rim. Warm teak and polished brass details echo the nautical heritage of the hotel's namesake. This landmark hotel is set against the spectacular backdrop of the Alaskan wilderness. All guest rooms and suites command majestic and panoramic views of the Cook Inlet or Chugach Mountains.

The property features an indoor pool, Jacuzzi, racquetball, massage, separate full-service men’s and women's athletic club, dry cleaning, salon, 12 shopping venues, award winning fine dining and a complete business center.

Alaska Railroad

Alaska Railroad Engine Recently, the Alaska Railroad built upon its unique passenger car fleet and raised the bar of luxury rail travel with the addition of new custom double-deck railcars. Featuring custom designed interiors highlighted with original Alaska art, savvy rail travelers will delight in their features. Guests will be drawn to the upper-level open-air platform.

Sit back and enjoy the comfortable seating and large picture windows. Be sure to keep an eye out for wildlife and magnificent views of Mt. McKinley. On a clear day you will start to get a glimpse of the Mountain within half an hour of departing Anchorage. Three hours into the trip marks one of the most spectacular views of Mt. McKinley and if the weather is good the train will slow to allow passengers to snap a few photos. North of Talkeetna you will cross the startling 918-foot Hurricane Gulch trestle, towering 296 feet above the creek below. Be sure to have your camera ready, as this is one of the route's best photo opportunities. Before arriving at Denali Park you will pass though Broad Pass, the highest point on the Alaska Railroad at 2,363 feet.

The Grande Denali Lodge

Grande Denali Lodge - Alaska The Grande Denali Lodge sits high above all the other hotels, less than a mile from the entrance to Denali National Park. By far, it has the most commanding view of any park lodge from its mountaintop setting. This premier facility offers all the comforts you would expect plus unsurpassed views of the Alaska Range and Nenana River Canyon. Each room features 2 queen beds, television, and telephone with data port, coffee maker, air-conditioning, and hair dryer and private bath.

The Alpenglow restaurant at the lodge is open from 4:30 am to 10:00 pm daily featuring Prime Rib and Alaskan Seafood specialties. A full wine list is available as are box lunches to take with you on any day excursions. The Grande Denali Lodge offers extensive local shuttle service for guests between the hotel and rail depot, visitor center and other local attractions and services. The hotel charges a $5.00 per adult per stay fee which covers the use of transportation services, as well as luggage handling between the hotel and train depot if needed.
