Mate / Engineer

Job Description
Reports to: Respective Captain and Relief Captain.

Professional Requirements: Minimum 100-ton Mate Inland license for Alaska, 500-ton Near Coastal Mate for Mexico. FCC Operator permit or GMDSS preferred but not required. SCTW endorsement commiserates to license required. Extensive background in troubleshooting and repair of the engineering aspects of small passenger ships including, air conditioning, MSDs, plumbing, electrical, hydraulics, refrigeration, diesel mechanics and small engine repair.

Duties: To take lead in all aspects of engineering maintenance and repair on board, working closely with the Captain to ensure that all necessary work is done in a safe, timely and economical fashion. Stand watches as directed by the Captain, including signing in as officer in charge of the watch. As a watch officer you are expected to stand a safe, professional watch that obeys all Coast Guard and Company practices and procedures. To operate launch as needed in a fashion that is both enjoyable to passengers and in accordance with prudent seamanship. Further duties as directed by Captain, not least of which is to be a good shipmate and to join the rest of the crew in building a healthy, productive team.
